Ambassador Reuben Brigety II is the new Dean of the Elliott School of International Affairs, The George Washington University. Ambassador Brigety has expertise in U.S. foreign policy in southern Africa, security in sub-Saharan Africa, U.S. refugee programs in Africa, humanitarian partnerships, international relations, human rights, and humanitarian assistance. Among his positions, he has served as the U.S. Representative to the African Union and to the UN Economic Commission for Africa. He was also Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of African Affairs with responsibility for Southern Africa and Regional Security Affairs and in the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration. He was Special Assistant in the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance at the U.S. Agency for International Development and a senior advisor for Development and Security to the U.S. Central Command Assessment Team in Washington and in Doha, Qatar.
