AFSA Brings the World to You

The World Issues Forum, the Speakers Bureau of the American Foreign Service Association, provides speakers to many highly diverse groups across the nation. Audiences include:

  • World Affairs Councils
  • Universities
  • Local community-service organizations
  • Churches
  • High schools
  • Others interested in America's role in the world

The World Issues Forum is a speakers corps of distinguished foreign affairs veterans, including many former ambassadors, all still actively involved in international affairs as authors, teachers, business-people and consultants.

There is no charge for AFSA speakers. Host groups are encouraged to assist with travel and local accommodations, where possible.

Our speakers place special emphasis on encouraging talented youth, especially minority-group members, to consider Foreign Service careers.

AFSA speakers can also shed light on many important issues, including:

  • American Interests in a Changing World
    • Middle East Peace Process
    • Post-Apartheid South Africa
    • Former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe
  • U.S. Economic Security
    • Global Trade and Investment
    • NAFTA
    • Trade issues with China and Japan
  • The Democratic Revolution
    • Human Rights in New Market Economies
    • Obstacles to Democracy
  • Global Issues in the 21st Century
    • Multilateral Diplomacy
    • United Nations Peacekeeping
    • Protecting the World Environment
    • Population and Migration
    • Nuclear Proliferation
