AFSA Bookstore, FS Reading List and Other Resources

Reading Lists

AFSA, in cooperation with the Department of State, has compiled lists of recommended reading for foreign affairs professionals. We encourage members and others in the Foreign Service community to click on the links below and peruse the lists. Remember, if you click through to Amazon.com from these pages, AFSA receives a small donation at no extra cost to you!

In addition to the above resources, we also recommend checking out our list of Foreign Service-related blogs.

AFSA Bookstore

Our bookstore now includes titles from the AFSA-Recommended Reading List and the State Department's Suggested Reading List, as well as all of the books listed in the FSJ’s annual compilations of works by Foreign Service–related authors.

AFSA provides an online purchase service in association with Amazon.com!  Though many of these books may be found elsewhere on the Internet and in local bookstores, we encourage you to use the AFSA Bookstore as each sale made through our links to Amazon.com creates revenue for AFSA at no extra cost to the buyer. You can choose from the following categories of books:

"In Their Own Write"

AFSA also features books by Foreign Service and FS-affiliated authors each year in a special issue of the Foreign Service Journal. All these books are available in the AFSA bookstore (see link below). The "In Their Own Write" sections from each recent year are listed here.

Talking Points

Each issue of the Foreign Service Journal contains the Talking Points (formerly "Cybernotes") section, which highlight websites featuring evergreen topics related to foreign affairs. The most recent editions are listed below.
