Affairs Internship
Overview
The Public Affairs intern works closely with the Director of Communications
in maintaining relations with print and broadcast media and organizing
outreach events to educate the public about the Foreign Service and
the importance of diplomacy.
Duties
Conducting research relevant to diplomacy and the work of the Foreign
Service; monitoring and summarizing press coverage; drafting and distributing
communications material; coordinating our nation-wide speakers program;
assisting with association publications; drafting press releases; assembling
press kits; and interacting with media representatives.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will preferably be a student majoring in Communications
or Journalism with outstanding writing and editing skills. Other majors
will be considered. Strong interpersonal communications skills are a
must, and the intern must be comfortable working over the phone and
e-mail. Some exposure to international affairs is desirable.
Conditions
During the spring and fall semesters, we are looking for someone who
can commit a minimum of 15 hours a week. During the summer, the intern
is asked to work full time, approximately 35 hours per week. We will
be glad to work with your college or university about receiving academic
credit. Additionally, a stipend is offered.
