What is the goal of the Foreign Service Online Community?

The Foreign Service Online Community is a platform for AFSA members to share their unique and rich experience and perspectives as Foreign Service professionals.AFSA provides the platform – the community steers the content.It is an online space where members can get in touch with each other, share ideas, interesting articles, professional insights, retirement questions and tips, or any other related content that is constructive and of general interest. In addition, an AFSA moderator may share information of interest to stimulate the content and discussion in the online community.

Who can join the Foreign Service Online Community?

All active duty and retiree regular members of AFSA are encouraged to join. Associate members do not have access to the community.

How do I join the FS Online Community?

Send an email to fscommunity@afsa.org and include your first and last name and the email address you would like to use.Once your email is received, you will be sent an email invitation with a link to join the FS Online Community on Yahoo.

I don’t have a Yahoo email address, can I still join?

Yes.Yahoo allows a non-Yahoo email address to be used to join a group but requires that the email be connected to a Yahoo ID to have full functionality.

What is a Yahoo ID?

A Yahoo ID is used by Yahoo to recognize your non-Yahoo email address and attach it to the Yahoo Group(s) you are a part of.(If you use Apple products (iPhone, Mac, iTunes) you may be familiar to an Apple ID). Having a Yahoo ID allows you to log into the group homepage to read all conversations, search for topics, and post or respond to posts. What are the community guidelines?

The Community Guidelines are available on the AFSA website. They include the vision for the FS Online Community as well as the etiquette and rules which follows standard best practices to allow for respectful and constructive discussions and sharing of information relevant to members of the Foreign Service.

What if I have a question or comment specifically for AFSA?

The Foreign Service Online Community’s purpose is to provide space for participants to communicate with each other. If you wish to communicate directly with AFSA on any issue, you can do so by emailing member@afsa.org. The FS Online Community is not the space for asking direct questions of AFSA.
