Campus Recruitment

Many retirees, independently or through the AFSA speakers bureau, help spread the word about Foreign Service careers by talking to student groups and participating in college career days. Retirees can assist State Department recruiters by working with the Department's Recruitment Division, which produces a packet of "Briefing Notes for Recruiters" with current information about careers and the Foreign Service Officer exam.

In addition to providing material about the Foreign Service and other recruiting information, retirees are able to tell about their personal experiences representing the U.S. abroad. Would-be applicants appreciate having these unique insights into the profession.

Retirees who are interested in participating in campus recruitment, or who are already involved and would like addititional materials, are encouraged to get in touch with Tom Switzer at switzer@afsa.org; telephone 202-944-5501 or with Deborah Graze, Outreach Branch Chief, Recruitment Division, at GrazeD@state.gov; telephone 202-261-8889. Another contact is Student Programs Branch Chief Tamara Brooks, 202-261-8924.
