IV. Completing the Financial Aid Application - Tips |

1. Complete the application. A separate application must be filed for each student applicant in a family. 2. Contact your school and have them send your academic transcript to AFSA, 2101 E Street NW, Washington, DC 20037 by February 6, 2008 or fax it to 202-338-6820 or email to dec@afsa.org. 3. Applicants must complete the College Scholarship Service (CSS) PROFILE which is used by AFSA and other colleges and universities to assess the family's ability to pay for college. Go to: https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/index.jsp or call CSS at 1-800-778-6888 or 1-305-816-2550. CSS charges a minimum of $23.00 to process the PROFILE. AFSA's CSS PROFILE code is 0540. Parents can estimate their 2005 income if they have not completed their taxes. CSS then sends AFSA the PROFILE output called the Financial Needs Analysis Report. This should be completed by January 20, 2008. 4. Each student, even if in the same family, must complete a CSS PROFILE. In the case of divorce/separation, the custodial parent completes the CSS PROFILE, and the non-custodial parent completes the CSS Divorced/Separated Statement. Contact AFSA (1-800-704-2372 ext. 504 or 202-944-5504 or dec@afsa.org) to obtain this form. 5. Save these instructions and copies of your CSS PROFILE for future reference. 6.
