2010/11 AFSA Merit Award Application Timeline
1. --- By 2/6/10, students submit their AFSA 2010 Academic or AFSA 2010 Art Merit Application to be considered for an award for the 2010/11 school year. Students also submit a copy of their high school transcripts using the AFSA High School Transcript Form, two-page essay, two letters of recommendation using the AFSA Recommendation Form if applying to the Academic Merit Program. Students must submit the above plus the student’s art submission for the Art Merit Award.

2. --- By 3/2/10 the Merit Award judges have attended a judge orientation program and receive the applications they will score.

3. --- By 3/25/10, the Merit Award judges will attend a panel meeting to determine some of the Merit Award winners and some of the Merit Award finalists.
4. --- By 4/3/10, the Committee on Education receives the finalists’ applications for scoring.
5. --- By 4/15/10, the Committee on Education meets to determine all Merit Award winners

5. --- By 4/17/10, all applicants are notified of the results of the AFSA Merit Award Competition.

6. --- In early May, AFSA hosts an afternoon reception and ceremony in our Washington, DC office to honor those winners and their families that can attend. Local Merit Award scholarship donors also attend as well.

7. --- By 5/13/10 Merit Award checks and certificates are sent to all winners, and winners submit their picture and biographical information on themselves for publication in AFSA’s Foreign Service Journal.
