Virginia Driver's License - MovingPosted 09/08/05 Moving overseas from Virginia. If you move out of Virginia, it is possible that the Virginia DMV will try and cancel your driver's license. In order to prevent this, you should mail a short letter to Mr. James Davidson at the Virginia DMV, indicating what it is you want to do (ie cancel your Virginia registration, change your address to a non-Virginia address, etc) AND include a photocopy of your passport and State Dept ID. The same would hold true if you want to renew your registration but want to change your address to a non-Virginia address. Once he gets the information, he can update your record accordingly and put the exception indicator on your record that shows that you have qualified for an exception to the Virginia address requirement. This will ensure that your Virginia driver's license is NOT cancelled. Even if you do find that your license has been cancelled, once you provide Mr. Davidson with a copy of your passport and State Dept ID, he cancel the cancellation order on your record and reactivate your Virginia driver's license (provided the license hasn't expired). Everything should be mailed to: DMV You can also fax this information to him at (804) 367-0363. If you have additional questions or need more information, the phone number is (804) 367-0379.
