Description:

On October 9, AFSA will present an event in collaboration with the association’s Committee for the Foreign Service Profession and Ethics. "Why Ethics Matter in the Foreign Service" will look at the idea of professional ethics writ large and how those apply to the Foreign Service. Should the Foreign Service have a separate and uniform code of ethics? How would that be applied, and what entity should enforce it? Is having an ethical framework necessary for a profession? This and many other issues will be part of the discussion.

Our expert speaker, Anthony J. Gray, is President and Chief Executive Officer at the Institute for Global Ethics of Camden, Maine. Previously, he served as Global Compliance Officer at Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation where his innovative leadership significantly improved the global compliance culture within the organization. Responsibilities included internal investigations, ethics education and training, legal and regulatory compliance, enterprise risk management, as well as serving as chief ethics and compliance officer. Prior to his work at Sikorsky, Mr. Gray was an associate attorney with Day Pitney LLP of Hartford, Connecticut, where he, as a member of the energy and later the finance departments, provided executive counsel to international corporations. Mr. Gray also served as Judicial Intern for Chief Justice Shirley S. Abrahamson of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

This program takes place at AFSA headquarters, 2101 E St NW, and begins at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9. Please register for this event by clicking here. Alternatively, you may RSVP to events@afsa.org. The event will be recorded and made available for later online viewing for those unable to attend.
