Today Crimea. Tomorrow? Many Putin watchers believe that being able to anticipate the enigmatic Russian president's next move - whether hosting another grandiose spectacle, crushing a political rival, or annexing part of a neighboring country - depends on uncovering the "real" Vladimir Putin and his true motives. Dr. Fiona Hill will discuss what she and co-author Clifford Gaddy argue are the complex identities of Putin as outlined in their forthcoming expanded version of Mr. Putin: Operative in the Kremlin.

Fiona Hill is director of the Center on the United States and Europe, and senior fellow in the Foreign Policy program at the Brookings Institution. She is a frequent commentator on Russian and Eurasian affairs, who has researched and published extensively on issues related to Russia, the Caucasus, Central Asia, regional conflicts, energy, and strategic issues. She is also the co-author of the recently published book, Mr. Putin: Operative in the Kremlin (Brookings Press, 2013).
