Start Date/Time:
Thursday, February 8, 2018 - 16:30
End Date/Time:
Thursday, February 8, 2018 - 19:00
Description:

With Dr. William Galston. The Salon Series will provide an opportunity for an open discussion of concepts, ideas, and principles shaping contemporary issues, perceptions, and concerns. Under Chatham House Rule, the series will offer an egalitarian sphere of polite conversation for all participants, evoking respectful, energizing and stimulating exchanges. The first salon will focus on Reinventing 'The People.' From the time of the Founders, democratic power and legitimacy were understood to derive from a Social Contract: a deal between the governed and the governing. The people relinquish the unrestricted freedom of the "state of nature" in exchange for government that secures their rights under the rule of law, provides security, and pursues the common good. In the deal, "We the people" are both governed and governing. Those elected to govern us are fiduciaries entrusted to serve the general welfare. This event costs $35 and includes dinner.
