Washington Nationals Honor the U.S. Foreign Service On September 30, AFSA and the Washington Nation- als Major League Baseball team hosted the first Foreign Service Night at Nationals Park, as part of AFSA’s new 50 state strategic outeach initiative, supported by the Fund for American Diplomacy. More than 500 members of the For- eign Service and their families attended to see the Washington Nationals play the Miami Marlins. Fresh from their success in the MLB National League East Division, the Nats played the Marlins for home- field advantage. Before the game, a group of AFSA members took to the field to be recog- nized as part of the Nation- als’ Spirit Awards. AFSA Governing Board members Josh Glazeroff and Lawrence Casselle, AFSA Editorial Board Chair Beth Payne and Ambassador (ret.) Marc Grossman were honored for their service at the brief ceremony. Following a rain delay, AFSA President Ambassador Barbara Stephenson threw out the ceremonial first pitch of the game. The atmosphere in the sections reserved for Foreign Service members was col- legial, with many people taking the opportunity to catch up with friends and former colleagues. AFSA would like to thank the Washington Nation- als team for helping to make this event possible. n AFSA President Ambassador Barbara Stephenson throws the first pitch of the game to the Washington Nationals catcher.
